Porto, Sintra & Lisbon, Portugal (Oct 11-18) Part II
Lisboa..such a beautiful city. The tiles continued, but more on the sidewalks and less on the buildings. Lisbon had a huge earthquake in 1775. It was the most destructive and deadly ones in history. 85% of Lisbon's buildings, palaces and museums were destroyed.
The twisting narrow streets were replaced by broad avenues. The reconstruction was also one of the first uses of prefabricated buildings.
June 17, 1665. The Battle of Montes Claros. It was the last major battle in The Portuguese Restoration War..and the most important battle in the country's history.
Beautiful sidewalks along Av de Liberdade..the main Lisbon drag.
Santa Justa Lift for amazing Lisbon views. Basically a huge tourist trap. If you ever go, hit me up and I'll let you know how to get in the back way and see the sights..for free and without the hour wait!
The hills in Lisbon made Porto's look like child's play. You rarely stroll in Lisbon, especially in the Alfama district, you hike!
Arroz Doce. If you give them your bra, it's free shots for the whole bar. I'm not going to say whether or not mine is hanging up there!
We were lucky to have Kyle and his friend, Petar, with us for a few days. Now this is a cable car.
Chapel built in 1503 to commemorate the safe return of Vasco de Gamma from the discovery of Cape of Good Hope and India
More of Pena Palace..built in many different architectural styles.
Kyle inside the palace
Cabo da Roca..the western most point of the European continent.
The lighthouse has been lit since 1772
The Fantastic World of Portguese Sardines..one of Dave's favorite places.
Beautiful tiles
Porto at night
Final tiles in the airport as we leave Portugal for our flight home. It was a great trip and a beautiful country. We'd love to return!
