Cruising....Venice to Dubrovnik
Ambulance rushing with siren on
Coolest doorbells we saw in an alley
Our obligatory gondola ride. Luckily we did it away from the high touristy places.
Sitting watching the view at our hotel's boat taxi dock.
That's the crowds I'm talking about!
Clock tower in Piazza San Marco. Amazing how it keeps a digital time
( half in roman numerals)
Look closely and you'll see it's
12:50 ( XII 50)
Piazza San Marco is one of the lowest points in Venice. It's almost at the same level as the Venetian lagoon.
During high tides water bubbles out of the sewer drains. At low tide it empties out.
Not much leeway for flooding!
MARCO POLO'S house..as seen from our gondola. From the 1200's.
Bye to Venice and on to Ravenna, Italy
Ravenna is know for it's beautiful mosaics dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries. It is a UNESCO Heritage site for good reason.
These mosaics are breathtaking.
Dante Alighieri's tomb. As in Dante's Inferno... He died in 1321 in Ravenna and is their admired poet.
Pictures and mosaics of him are everywhere
Beautiful views. Did you know Croatians invented neckties and the parachute? Me neither! Another Jeopardy answer.
The beautiful town of Trogir
Russ and Dave walking the streets of Trogir. Now on to Dubrovnik, Croatia
Breakfast in our cabin before I leave the ship. Dave had GI issues. Asked the medical crew for Immodium. Wrong move! He got Immodium, Flagyl, probiotics and QUARANTINED to the cabin for 24 hrs. So he missed Dubrovnik and part of Santorini.
Such a beautiful city. It's apparently known for a lot of Game of Thrones being filmed here.( it was the primary filming location for King's Landing...one of the cities in the show)
Starting up the steps to do the Old Town wall walk. Its about 2km around the high walls of the old town. The walls were finished in the 16th century.
The veiws were great. But, my gosh it was HOT! 🥵 Not a cloud in the sky..which made for great photos..but roasted us!
Still walking.....
My knees actually started complaining about the steps!
Lookin down on the " peons" below.
More of the Old Town
The Placa. Pretty limestone but very slick when wet.
This fountsin was my lifesaver. When we got down from the wall I think I filled my water bottle 3 times here!
Next post will be the rest of the cruise..Santorini to Athens.. Bye for now.
