Prince Edward Island

We spent an entire week exploring PEI. It's much bigger than I expected. Potatoes, blueberries and mussels seem to be the big money.
We came across acres of these beautiful fields of what looked like mustard. Come to find out it is mustard. It's grown for two reasons:
1. Mustard is high in glucosinolates that naturally repel insects and diseases in the soil.
2. They rotate it with the potatoes and have found they get a much better crop and yield after plowing the mustard down and planting.
For me, however, it was absolutely beautiful to see the color contrast with the other fields.
Dave got tired of me saying, "stop" so I could get another picture.
We stayed at this beautiful Bed and Breakfast called 45 Steps. It was a splurge for us but a wonderful break.
Thomas and Barbara own the place. Barbara is from Switzerland and is a chef, trained in a Michelin star restaurant. Thomas is from Germany and grew up in hospitality. Needless to say, the stay and the food were great!
Lupine all over
Beautiful flowers on the grounds
Quaint little seaports everywhere.
Stopped at many "roadside" spots for lobster rolls. Dave had that scallop roll which was soooo good.
No trip to PEI would be complete without stopping near Cavendish on the north shore to see Lucy Maude Montgomery's birthplace and inspiration for her Anne of Green Gables books.
But no trip to PEI would really be complete without having PEI Mussels.
The Blue Mussel Cafe was recommended to us. Their speciality? Mussels in blueberry ale and lime.
Canadian lighthouses, as my friend Tim pointed out, are very similar. Short, boxy and painted red and white. Those are what we saw. Where's the imagination, Canada, eh?
Actually I found out that these are "harbor lighthouses" as opposed to "windswept lighthouses".
Canada has many tall round windswept lighthouses..you just have to know where to look.
Traps were everywhere!
Spent our final days on PEI in Charlottetown.
Victoria Row..quaint pubs and shops.
The harbor.
Delicious dinner and drinks at Slaymaker and Nichols for our last night in Charlottetown. The restaurant was recommended to us by Barbara at 45 Steps. She did not steer us wrong. It was perfect.

Adorable painted homes.
Dave and his antics.
Cute chairs made from lobster traps.
On the ferry. Leaving from Wood Islands, PEI and going to Caribou, Nova Scotia. Next stop, Cape Breton.
